At the beginning of every year without fail, the eComOne team sits down to discuss which Charity we’d like to support in the upcoming year. Last year we chose to support The Bearded Fisherman as our Charity of choice, and as a team, we did 10k step challenges and fundraising days to raise money.

We had so many amazing Charity suggestions from the team that it made the choice very difficult, however, we finally agreed on Macmillan Cancer Support as our chosen charity for 2023.  Unfortunately, too many of us in the team know someone who has been affected by cancer in one way or another which therefore made it even more important for us to support them going into the new year.

Sophie Penny, Account Manager at eComOne, shares a few words about why she nominated Macmillian to be our Charity of the year.

“I decided to nominate Macmillan as our charity of the year as it’s very close to my heart. When my mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last year Macmillan provided emotional and financial support to us. You never realise the cost of cancer until it affects your family. People need to adapt their life which can be expensive. Many patients will need to pay for extra childcare, petcare, transport, adapted living and clothing and much more that you don’t realise. Macmillan really lightens the load for those affected by Cancer and that’s why I would love to give back to them.”

Emma Derbyshire, our Head of Growth, has had her own experiences with charities like Macmillan Cancer Support,

“When I was 11 years old my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. My brother was 15 and it was a lot for us to deal with as a family. Charities like Macmillan who offer support to families at this overwhelming and frightening time are worth their weight in gold as they offer reassurance, education and company when you need it most to protect your mental health”.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides services for people living with cancer at every stage of their experience, on an emotional, practical, physical and financial level.

There are many things the team at eComOne plan to do throughout the year to support Macmillan, including a Coffee Morning, Car Boots, Raffles and much more.

Our first fundraising event was held on the 30th March at Mosaic Digital Hub, Lincoln, alongside their regular Mosaic Meets event. We provided homemade cakes, coffee, tea and the usual accompaniments to raise awareness and money for Macmillan.

We successfully raised over £100 for Macmillan Cancer Support at our Coffee Morning and we hope to continue this support with some of our upcoming fundraising events.

Three members of our team, Sophie Penny, Skye Tunks and Carrianne Dukes are doing a skydive on the 14th of September to raise money for Macmillan. You can donate using the link here.
