Site Speed

Still one of Google's top five ranking factors - no user waits around on a slow site - are you losing customers?

Lets get started...

It is one of those things that every SEO worth their name will check first. It is also one of the things that we talk about every chance we get. For good reason!

2 seconds is the threshold for ecommerce website acceptability. At Google, we aim for under a half second.” Maile Ohye, from Google

How to Check Your Speed

It is the easiest thing to check and has huge implications for User Experience which means it also has huge implications for your search marketing as well.

GT Metrix

Tools To Use

Pop your site into GT Metrix and see how you fair. Our minimum is a grade B. Anything less than that we consider slow. The next check is to see how Google sees your site. Use their Page Speed Tool to get their assessment. We offer a comprehensive approach to site speed to make sure we hit at least a B, an A if we can get you there. The prohibitive factors that keep a score of A elusive are the way your code has been written, the way your site handles Javascript and what server the site is hosted on.

problems we face

We Can Address The Following Problems:

  1. Optimise images (The number one biggest issue with most websites)
  2. Serve scaled images (Trying to fit an ocean in a space big enough for a paddling pool will slow your server down)
  3. Leverage browser caching
  4. Enable Gzip compression
  5. Minify HTML
  6. Serve resources from a consistent URL

Make sure people are not bouncing off your site frustrated by its speed.

What Do Google Say?

“How fast your website loads is critical but often a completely ignored element in any online business and that includes search marketing and search engine optimisation. And that includes page load times on mobile devices: The average time it takes to fully load a mobile landing page is 22 seconds, according to a new analysis. Yet 53% of visits are abandoned if a mobile site takes longer than three seconds to load. That’s a big problem.” Google
